The Story of Stone
A 19th Century Archontiko (235m²), Restored for Modern Living

Villa Alexandrou is a piece of Cretan history living a second life. Originally constructed in the late 19th century, this Archontiko (mansion) stood as a central pillar of Kalamitsi Alexandrou. For generations, its thick limestone walls sheltered families from the summer sun and winter mountain winds.
By the turn of the millennium, time had taken its toll. In 2001, we undertook a massive restoration project with a singular philosophy:
Preserve the Soul, Upgrade the Life.
We refused to use concrete where stone belonged. The result is a home that honours the original builders while quietly delivering the comforts and connectivity that modern living demands.
The Architecture of Silence
Every material was chosen for its permanence, its beauty, and its ability to create a space where rest comes naturally.
Local artisans hand-carved the replacement stones to match the original Venetian-style masonry. Every arch in the house is authentic to the region's building tradition, connecting you to centuries of Cretan craftsmanship.
Look up. The ceilings are supported by massive, aged cypress trunks. These are not decorative — they are the structural spine of the house, offering a scent and warmth that modern materials cannot replicate.
The thick limestone walls act as a natural climate control system. They trap coolness in August and radiate warmth in January, creating a stable, comfortable environment year-round.
In traditional Cretan life, the courtyard is the living room. Ours is enclosed by high walls, creating a wind-protected 'sun trap' where you can dine, swim, and unwind in total privacy, surrounded by flowers, trees and bougainvillea.

The Suites (x3)
Three elegant suites designed for privacy and comfort. Two feature a split-level layout with a mezzanine queen bed, while the ground-floor suite offers the same luxury on a single level. All include an ensuite bathroom and sitting area.
The Twin Rooms (x2)
Two charming twin bedrooms, perfect for friends or children. Each room features two single beds, ample storage, and its own private ensuite bathroom. Quiet and comfortable.
The Kitchen & Living Area
Fully equipped for long stays: a professional oven, dishwasher, Nespresso machine, and all the cookware you need. The open-plan living area features comfortable seating and a smart TV for relaxing evenings.
The Courtyard & Pools
The heart of the villa. A large seasonal outdoor pool for swimming laps, plus a separate plunge/children's pool. Surrounded by lemon trees, sun loungers, and a dining area for 10. Privacy and sun, protected from the wind.
